A Journey That Evolves With You
Our model is designed to evolve with each resident. We believe in and support independence, but ensure caregivers are available and can be relied upon to offer more help when it's asked for.
This reduces stress, improves co-ordination, provides the most effective outcome for the older person, and peace of mind for everyone.
What Our Residents Say
"I love the outlook from my peaceful patio and really enjoy nattering with people who pop in to say hello. I enjoy the regular braais and socials and the friendliness. I have often enjoyed participating in 'Arts, Crafts & Mosaics' and I have a dog who has perfect eyesight but is a little deaf to instructions…. If I am stuck with home maintenance, I just phone the relevant people at Fairlands and they help me. Also, if I need any nursing help, I just phone and the nurses come to my home which gives me confidence and my family comfort that my welfare is taken care of. Plus, I know one day when I can't manage on my own, I don't need to go look for another place to stay."
— K. Sanders
"We interacted with Fairlands long before the cottage renovation process started. Fairlands gave us our cottage design and what they offer, and whatever extras we wanted we paid for ourselves - they were very accommodating making it into our home. My husband explained how and where we wanted the additional items in the scullery, more cupboards up to the ceiling in the kitchen and then there were new items, such as our own aircon & TV which we paid for, but the cables were properly installed by Fairlands during the renovation process, which was appreciated."
— C. Vosloo
"Fairlands has earned the trust of its community over many years. As a non-profit organisation, our responsibility is to be fit guardians of this legacy by ethical governance, transparent management, and careful responsible financial oversight for the benefit of every resident and the long-term sustainability of Fairlands."

Our Story, Simply Told
Fairlands was founded in the 1960s. With over 50 years of service, Fairlands has improved upon the foundation of care, integrity, and responsible governance which was provided by the founding vision of the local community, determined to provide dignified care for older people in East London.
That purpose continues to guide us today: Living well, with support that adapts to life's changes.
Fairlands helps people to help people – we are therefore a registered non-profit organization operating within South Africa, in a regulated framework, with which we comply fully:
- Department of Social Development (DSD) and the Older Persons Act 13 of 2006, updated with the Older Persons Amendment Act 1 of 2025
- POPIA (Protection of Personal Information Act)
- PAIA (Promotion of Access to Information Act)
